The main reason for increasing social media rapidly, The cost of Data and Smartphones was getting cheap.

Social media addiction doesn’t just affect behavior during the day; it even damages people’s ability to sleep. A study found that 71% of Americans sleep with or next to a mobile device.

The average person spends nearly 2 hours a day using social media, which amounts to 5 years and 4 months of his/her lifetime. In that time a person could run more than 10,000 marathons or travel to the moon and back on 32 separate occasions. For teens, social media time spent could be up to 9 hours every day.

Design Ethics

Creative technologist, Aral Balkan, believes that designing a great experience that is ethically aligned involves designing technology that respects human rights, human effort, and human experiences. But as designers, we’re failing to design for human rights. Aral Balkan writes that because our entire lives are now stored within the technologies we use, the human rights that apply to us (i.e. privacy, trust, respect, autonomy) must also extend to these objects.

As we are the designers Grabbing the attention of the users by sending notifications or playing videos while scrolling, attracting with good visual and UI elements. we are encouraging the user to stay in that product and degrading the health.

Teenagers are attracting to these tricks and wasting time on social media. There are so many misunderstandings, misuse of data, and suicide attacks that were increasing day by day.

Role of Designer to Social media Addiction:

Here the designer will play a major role to impact it on all the Humans, they will do research according to the users how they are interacting with the application, they will create an algorithm according to the usage and likes sharing commenting, etc. Designers will conduct Quantitative and Qualitative analyses with certain age groups of people so that they can analyze things easily.

The researcher’s survey consisted of questions from demographics to the user interface, user experience, and algorithmic design and was framed in such a way that the established relationships between design, human psychology, and social media apps can be understood based upon the responses.

New concepts in user interface and experience design and applied through countless hours of research and development which are based upon human psychology, behavior, likes, interests, analyzing latest trends, and many such parameters. Small tests are conducted to understand what people like and how they can stay connected to these apps.

It’s all a design game design studies human psychology in detail and thus is the gateway to create these addictive platforms which can ultimately generate billions of dollars by extracting our time and data.

Ethics Of Designer to Influence people

Here the ethics play a major role, when the designer is doing research or design they will keep in mind that to make a profit to the company and there are no rules and regulations to design an app and make an algorithm in a systematic way to attract the people without considering the effect caused by the app after reaching to the millions or billions of people.

As per the Government has to make some regulations according to the usage and design of the app and algorithm, who can see what info they can see and if any wrong information or Fake news was trending take some actions.
